Playstation 4 by Sony ($399.99)
The next generation of gaming is near. The Wii U has thus far failed to prove why Wii owners should upgrade their hardware. Microsoft caused a lot of controversy over the privacy concerns of the Xbox One. Sony’s Playstation 4 is the cream of the crop of next generation consoles. Boasting launch titles such as inFAMOUS: Second Son, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Watch Dogs, video gaming isn’t all the PS4 is capable of. It’s also a Blu-ray player, a slingbox, a 500GB computer, and more. the Xbox 360 may have been more popular than the Playstation 3, but judging by the hardware previews, I’m giving the next gen battle to Sony.
Acrylic Travel Coffee Press by Bodum ($19.95)
Coffee is one of those things you either love or hate. While your man may tell you he doesn’t care about what kind of coffee he drinks, get him this coffee press/thermos combo and some Fair Trade Certified Italian Roast from Starbucks to really impress. The flavor you get from a press versus a brewer is like comparing Godiva to a Hershey’s bar. I normally take my coffee with cream and sugar, but with this bean/brewer combo, I enjoyed the flavor of the beans black. With the travel thermos built in, this is the perfect coffee accessory for the man on the go. Make sure to get your coffee coarsely ground for best results.
Octane 18x by Camelbak ($70.99)
Being outdoors is fun. I enjoy getting exercise while connecting with nature — biking, jogging, hiking, camping. This creates a need for water on the go. Camelbak has you covered with their water bag backpacks. The Octane 18x is designed for military use, so it can handle rough conditions. It’s designed to fit snug against your back while carrying water and other essentials. If you’re planning to go out into the deep wilderness, you can also wear another backpack over it to carry your tent, clothes, and other camping essentials. Of everything I own, my Camelbak is easily the item I use most often.
Airfare Out of Town and a Nice Hotel by Hotwire (Varies)
If a guy has everything, give him an experience instead. Plan a vacation for the two of you to fly out to a different city and stay in a hotel. If he’s into sports, get tickets to an out-of-town sports team he likes (or his hometown favorite visiting another city). Check out plays, festivals, restaurants, beaches, hiking trails, monuments, natural wonders, and the plethora of exciting travel adventures the US has to offer. Life is about more than material possessions, and time is the most valuable resource we have, so spend time seeing the world.
The 4 Elements of a Perfect Shave by The Art of Shaving ($88.55)
There are some small adjustments a man can make to feel a bit more civilized. A decent shaving kit is one such game-changer. When I was a kid, I’d watch my dad shave with his brush and soap in a cup. I envied him and couldn’t wait until I reached the age where I could do the same thing. When I started shaving, I was disappointed to find out canned shaving gels and creams just weren’t as satisfying. The Art of Shaving is a company that is literally preserving the art of shaving. If your man doesn’t have all 4 elements of a perfect shave, it’s time to get it for him.
Leather Legends Journal by Rustic River Leather ($34.95) and Vanishing Point Retractable Fountain Pen by Pilot ($139.95)
For the man who has everything, I suggest a pen and paper to keep track of it all. Something about having a nice pen just makes you feel like a successful man. Pilot’s Vanishing Point Retractable Fountain Pen is the Cadillac of pens. If you’ve never written with a fountain pen before, I highly suggest you give this one a try. Rustic River’s leather journal won’t look out of place near tools, guns, fishing gear, etc. No matter what a man is into or how old he is, the classics never go out of style.
